(Colo.)-AP Source: Broncos' Billy Winn Out For 2017 With Knee Injury

The Broncos defensive line was already thinning when second-string nose tackle Billy Winn went down with what turned out to be a season-ending ACL tear during Thursday's preseason opener against Chicago.

Winn was caught under the pile on a Bears run in the first quarter of the Broncos' exhibition game in Chicago.

That's very bad news for Wolfe, and for the Broncos defense.

Winn joined the Broncos last season and recorded 19 total tackles in 16 games.

Winn hobbled out of Soldier Field on Thursday with the aid of crutches. Before his injury, Winn was projected to be Denver's No. 2 nose tackle this season.

His loss is the latest among a growing list of injured players for the Broncos, and leaves them thin, especially at nose tackle. He will become the fourth nose tackle on the roster, joining Domata Peko, undrafted rookie Tyrique Jarrett and Kyle Peko, who is now on the physically unable to perform list.

Wolfe suffered a stinger early in training camp and was removed from drills for the remainder of that practice, but he returned to practice quickly in the days that followed. But the team is expected to make a move to fill Winn's role.
