Arsenal confident of breakthrough in quest to keep key-player

Previewing Friday night's Premier League opener against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium, Robson told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "The way Arsenal are going to play with this 3-4-3 system, Ozil and Sanchez would be absolutely ideal for it".

However, Arsene Wenger has stated in his pre-match press conference that not only does he want the player to stay, but to develop into a great player.

According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal are determined to retain Alexis Sanchez beyond the transfer window and have offered him a new £300,000-a-week contract to ward off the likes of Manchester City and PSG.

"He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training, before he came to Wembley (for the FA Community Shield final on Sunday)", Wenger was quoted as saying by Arsenal's website on Tuesday.

However, Wenger said: "He's an Arsenal player in the short term".

"I'm convinced that (it) will happen soon", Wenger said when asked about the likelihood of a woman taking over a team in one of England's top two divisions. The Chile player has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

"Some you know about and that's very hard for a group of players to cope with that - and some other reasons we will talk about on another day". So this will mean, they could concentrate on the Premier League this season.it will be a big boost if the club could convince Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to sign new contracts too.

Wenger also dismissed Chelsea's reported interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, saying he is still firmly in his first-team plans. But do I feel sorry for Chelsea because they don't have enough players? No'. He's today very conscious of his qualities as well, something he was not always.

While Ozil and Ramsey missed the Community Shield, Mertesacker was taken off injured after sustaining a head injury. He has impressed immensely at right wing-back but with Hector Bellerin still coming through, it's hard to say who will be first choice.

'Sanchez's work ethic is outstanding, as I have said many times.
