Andrew Luck 'Could' Start Colts' Season Opener vs. Rams, Says Jim Irsay

The biggest question for Irsay was whether Luck would be ready for the Colts' trip to Los Angeles to face the Rams in Week 1. Irsay wouldn't guarantee that Luck would be under center for the team's season opener, but he does think he will be ready to play near the beginning of the season.

Irsay's comments come after general manager Chris Ballard said "we're exactly where I thought we'd be at this time" when discussing Luck's throwing program in July, per George Bremer of the Herald Bulletin. So clearly, the Colts are seeing some good things from their quarterback.

None of the Colts' backup quarterback options looked promising in Sunday's preseason game.

There had been rumblings that Luck could start the season on the PUP list, thus would be unable to play for at least six games. Scott Tolzien went 2 for 5 for 24 yards, Phillip Walker went 9 for 20 for 86 yards, and Stephen Morris went 13 for 20 for 94 yards.
