Suspicious vehicle crashes into US Capitol Police cruiser

A "suspicious vehicle" rammed into a U.S. Capitol Police cruiser Monday afternoon near the Library of Congress, according to officials. According to Fox News, there were reportedly two vehicles involved in the event. The crash occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m.

The incident began when a auto being driven erratically came close to hitting the cruiser parked at its post along Independence Avenue. The incident was still ongoing shortly after 2 p.m.

Authorities said at this time there was no indication that the crash was related to an act of terrorism.

US Capitol Police said: "The US Capitol Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious vehicle located at Second Street and Independence Avenue SE". SE, at the intersection around which several Library of Congress buildings cluster. The driver of the second vehicle, which crashed and is now under investigation, was taken to the hospital with an unspecified injury. The officer also was taken to the hospital and released after being treated for minor injuries.
