New Suzuki Swift Hybrid unveiled

After introducing the 2017 Swift earlier this year, Suzuki has now unveiled its Hybrid SG and Hybrid SL variants in Japan.

The Swift Hybrid SL variant comes equipped with paddle shiftters. Powering the Swift Hybrid is a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 89 bhp and is mated to a 10 kW electric motor generator sending power only to the front wheels. The new hybrid system automatically shuts down the internal combustion engine when the auto is running at a low speed and switches the drive to electric mode.

Also standard are two driving modes - one that prioritises fuel economy, and other which focuses on energetic driving. The company claims the vehicle to provide a high fuel efficiency of 32.0km/L. The new variant is not only more environmentally conscious, but also more fuel efficient and the automaker claims a mileage of 32 kmpl in the Japanese cycle. Advanced safety features including the Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system that features a monocular camera and laser sensor to detect pedestrians and vehicles ahead, as well as SRS curtain airbags and front seat SRS side airbags, come as standard.

While the new generation Suzuki Swift is an extremely important product for India and is set to hit the floors at the 2018 Auto Expo, but there are no indication of hybrid Swift will come to India, due to high pricing and expensive technology. Under the new tax regime, hybrid vehicles are on the same slab as luxury cars at 28 percent GST plus 15 percent cess at present.
