Nebraska cornerback Jones has knee surgery

Nebraska coach Mike Riley confirmed Saturday that Jones underwent surgery to fix a meniscus in his left knee and will miss anywhere from four to six months of action - placing the entire 2017 season in jeopardy for Jones. For his efforts, he was named honorable mention All-Big Ten. Junior safety Aaron Williams will take his place, joining quarterback Tanner Lee and linebacker Chris Weber at the conference's major preseason event. "He's focused on what he wants to do, what he wants to get done, what he wants for this defense and what he wants for this team, and he's attacking that - in a real way each day". Jones finished the year with 25 tackles, two interceptions, five breakups, two tackles for loss and a sack.

Jones, a member of the 2014 recruiting class, played as a true freshman, so he has his redshirt year still remaining.

The Cornhuskers secondary allowed 215.8 yards through the air per game last season, which ranked No. 49 in the nation.
