Metro Detroit woman child identified in deadly distracted driving crash

A metro Detroit woman and her 5-year-old daughter who were killed in a distracted driving crash on US-23 Friday night have been identified.

Gladys and Za-Kira Johnson of Redford Township were killed in the crash about 2:20 p.m. Friday on southbound US 23 north of Summerfield Road in Summerfield Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Johnson was from OH, but both were Redford residents at the time of the crash.

Police released the names of the deceased in the multiple-car collision that occurred on USA 23 between the Ida West Road and Summerfield Road interchanges.

The 37-year-old Moyer couldn't be reached for comment Monday. It is believed he was texting while driving.

The force of the crash sent the Hyundai into a 2004 Toyota being driven by a 20-year-old from Findlay, Ohio. Authorities pronounced both dead at the scene. The crash caused a chain reaction, involving several other vehicles.
