Man Utd keeper Sam Johnstone: I came back for Aston Villa fans

Manager Steve Bruce has revealed that he has a number of options to choose from for the left-back position at Aston Villa, despite Jordan Amavi being linked with a transfer away from the club.

He is already popular among the Aston Villa fans having turned down a bid from their main rivals Birmingham City.

Appointed Chelsea skipper in 2004, he captained the Blues to back-to-back Premier League titles before adding three more during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Veretout spent last season on loan at Saint-Etienne and the Ligue 1 club have been keen to secure him on a permanent deal this summer but are yet to find an agreement with Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old, however, has been involved in Villa's pre-season preparations, featuring in the 4-0 friendly win over Telford United and attending the club's training camp in Portugal.

And there ploy seems to be working as according to French sports daily L'Equipe, Real Betis have been in touch with Villa in order to discuss the possibility of signing Veretout.

Johnstone made 22 appearances for the Villains during his first loan spell at the club, keeping eight clean sheets as the club recovered from the disastrous start to the Championship season made under Bruce's predecessor Roberto di Matteo.
