Dead woman found in vehicle on Woodridge Drive

A man has been arrested after Mansfield police discovered a woman's corpse in the trunk of a vehicle early Saturday morning.

Dequalan Harris, who was at the home, told police he had not seen the woman since Thursday, when he picked a child up from her in Texas. "While speaking with the male subject, he was advised that Cedar Hill (Texas) Police Department wanted him detained at which time a struggle ensued as he fought with officers and attempted to run away".

The body has not yet been positively identified, but authorities believe it is that of a missing woman from Cedar Hill, TX.

Harris was booked on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and gross abuse of a corpse, jail records show.

A short foot pursuit occurred and a Taser was deployed before Harris was apprehended.

According to Coontz, while the vehicle was being towed, officers opened the rear compartment area of the vehicle and located a dead woman inside.

The vehicle was then secured and the Richland County Coroner and Richland County Prosecutors Office personnel responded to the scene which was processed by the Mansfield Police Crime Lab. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.

An investigation, being conducted by both the Mansfield and Cedar Hill forces, is ongoing.
