Barcelona coach not thinking about signing Verratti

Barcelona sporting director Roberto Fernandez admits the Catalan giants are yet to reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over the potential transfer of Marco Verratti.

However, PSG have so far refused to open negotiations with Barca and as things stand the midfielder looks set to remain at the Parc des Princes.

"My intention is to have the best squad possible, but it's hard to make it much better because of what we have here", Valverde said in a news conference on Monday amid a barrage of questions about Verratti. Until the last day of the market, nothing can be ruled out.

He told Cadena Cope: "Verratti can become a key player for Barça, and we always have to fight to attract the big players".

"For me, they're not for sale". It's hard to improve what's in the team.

"There's a lot of time ahead of us [in the window], so there is no need to rush", he said when asked about the Verratti situation.

Man Utd have been put on alert with the news that Barcelona have agreed to sell Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic. "But my idea is always to work with the players in my squad". "For me, the best signings are those who are in my team", he said.

Ernesto Valverde's side will face Juventus, Manchester United and rivals Real Madrid in the competition before returning to Catalonia to play Brazilian club Chapecoense.
