Arika confirms untitled fighting game with Street Fighter EX characters

Fans of the developer's arcade Street Fighter series had their hopes immediately dashed.

Arika's upcoming fighting game for home consoles received a new trailer at this year's EVO 2017 event. Arika calls this "the newest entry in the EX Series" - all EX games so far have been branded as Street Fighter games, and included characters from Capcom's mainline games.

The game is in development for PS4, and Arika promises a "limited time beta/server test" on PS4 at the end of 2017.

Garuda, Skullomania and Darun Mister were all shown in the trailer.

The YouTube description of the trailer notes that, "ARIKA has chose to begin development on a PlayStation 4 version of "Mysterious Fighting Game (Title Undecided)" and make a public announcement on the final day of EVO2017".

Arika even wrote in the description that it was all one big joke, noting the game was ' not being officially considered for release at this stage.

Not only will the game likely borrow mechanics from the Street Fighter EX games, but it will also feature some of the game's characters. Pre-orders for Japan will be available during the beta test, but details on pre-orders for other regions as well as pre-order bonuses will be announced at a later date. The joke, however, was on those who thought it was a joke - the game's actually real, and will include long-lost characters from the EX series in its roster.
