Real president Perez "not contemplating" Ronaldo departure

Real president Perez

Last year, Real Madrid signed Ronaldo to a contract extension that would keep him with the team through June 2021, and his agent claims that his buyout clause is over $1 billion, which clearly limits the realistic suitors.

Reigning Ballon d'Or and Best FIFA Men's Player award victor Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United having been "outraged" by what he feels is unfair treatment by Spanish tax authorities, making him determined to leave the country.

Ronaldo was named man of the match in his country's Confederations Cup game with Mexico but failed to attend the press conference which comes with the award, speaking only about the game in a brief interview with Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Cristiano Ronaldo is now playing with Portugal in the Confederations Cup but the transfer rumors continue to swirl of a possible departure from Real Madrid.

As for Cristiano Ronaldo, this is not the first time he will be attempting to sign with Manchester.

The Spaniard returned to the top role at the Santiago Bernabeu in elections in 2009 and picked up where he had left off by breaking the world transfer record twice in a week with the signings of Brazilian Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But now the Ronaldo news has meant there could be a big rethink about the next move. In all their history, Real have probably never made a decision like this.

Barcelona were also targeted by press leaks surrounding the possible departure of Lionel Messi previous year when he was in the crosshairs of tax authorities.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also reported to be interested but Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge denied the German champions would make an offer.

"We're used to being the subject of intense transfer speculation during transfer windows", Rummenigge said in a statement.

In the tentative first discussions Manchester United have had over potentially bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club, a situation still involving so many complications and questions, there are a few things that are at least abundantly clear. The club - which also won La Liga last season - lead the way in the elite European competition with 12 trophies.
