Centre Launches App For Sharing International Yoga Day Experience

International Yoga Day is right around the corner and more than 170 countries are participating in the world yoga day.

Consul General Riva Ganguly Das led the Yoga Day celebrations at the Consulate premises on Monday and participated in the yoga and Art of Living (AOL) sessions. Actor and activist Anupam Kher, who turned on the light show, said: "It's great, great feeling, personally for me as an Indian, as a citizen of the world and (with the global recognition of) yoga today". New York's Times Square, billed as the crossroads of the world, is holding the the annual "Mind over Madness Yoga" celebrations on Wednesday, which is the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere.

A large number of people attended the yoga sessions at the Consulate and performed the "Surya Namaskar", "Pranayam", AOL sessions and other yoga exercises.

Officials said preparations for the day have been made to mark the day.

Reports said the rehearsals for the day have already began and were going on in full swung on all the designated places within and outside India.

"Guidelines issued by the Union ministry of Ayush to observe International Yoga Day have been forwarded to schools".

Chef de Cabinet of the UN Secretary General Maria Luiza Ribeiro and President of the General Assembly Ambassador Peter Thomson are special guests on the occasion. The UN postal agency, UN Postal Administration (UNPA) will issue the new special event sheet to commemorate the day that has been marked annually since 2015. The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations will organise a "Yoga Session with Yoga Masters" at the world body's headquarters led by Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, India and Swami Sivadasananda of Sivananda Yoga Retreat, Austria. The information will subsequently be visible on the website of the Department of Science and Technology.
