79 people presumed dead in London high-rise fire

Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy said five people had been formally identified and the rest were "sadly" missing presumed dead.

"I've heard stories of heroism, from Christians, from Muslims and from others, looking after their brothers and sisters, their neighbours and doing the job that we expect from this brilliant community because of the fantastic community that is here in this part of London".

So far 126 hotel places have been found for residents of Grenfell Towers and Grenfell Walk.

The recovery operation in the 24-storey tower has resumed but could take weeks, the BBC said.

"This is an incredible distressing time for families and they have my commitment that we will do this as quickly as we possibly can", he said.

"As we do everything we can to help them, we will make sure they have the counselling and emotional support they need in the hard days, weeks and years ahead".

"Khan went on to call Wednesday's massive Grenfell Tower fire "a preventable accident that didn't need to happen" - and said the tragedy was "a outcome of the mistakes and neglect from politicians from the council and from the government".

He said all records, including emails, minutes of meetings, correspondence with contractors, safety assessments, specifications and reports - must be kept intact.

'But being with colleagues from the London Fire Brigade when I was in there, colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and other police officers, I think it's fair to say it is incredibly emotional working in there.

In other developments, a company that renovated the tower denied that cladding on the building was banned in the United Kingdom after comments made by Chancellor Philip Hammond.

She also says she will receive daily reports from the stricken neighborhood and has established a $6.4 million emergency fund to help the tower families.

In addition, British health authorities will provide long-term bereavement counselling for those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.

With anger mounting over the government's handling of the blaze, May on Saturday met residents from the Grenfell Tower and pledged to support the victims as protesters gathered in the streets around her residence for a second day.

Officials are using dental records, fingerprints, DNA samples, tattoos and scars to try and positively identify victims. 16 bodies have been recovered from the Tower and taken to a mortuary.
