Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin to fight in September

For Alvarez, Chavez became the final steppingstone to the bout fight fans have demanded for close to two years.

Canelo Alvarez (48-1-1) takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. "But, I always say, Canelo Alvarez is the best because I fight the best".

Alvarez dominated the fight from the start as his quicker hands allowed him to land hard clean shots to Chavez's head and body.

Canelo Alvarez is a considerable favorite (-600) in the fight set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Only the venue is undetermined.

But while last nights "Mexican War" was a dud, the same can not be said about the impending biggest fight of the year. Alvarez announced that he would fight Gennady Golovkin on September 16 at the very same venue. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) into an exhibition.

"I thought he was going to fight". He landed 228 strikes to just 71 for Chavez, sweeping the scorecards 120-108. "I haven't had too many fights and I needed more distance and more speed", said Chavez Jr. "I've shown I can do lots of things in the ring, anything a fighter brings-I've shown I can showcase myself", said Alvarez.

I'm a bit surprised by the line just because of how each fighter looked most recently. The deal was signed and sealed last week, according to Golden Boy Promotions. It didn't matter in this one-sided fight.

"I think Golovkin's been sliding", Atlas explained, as quoted on Bad Left Hook. I've said in the past that this is the kind of fight that [you can do] two or three times.

'I feel very excited, ' said Golovkin.

"It couldn't be a bigger announcement in the sport of boxing", said Tom Loeffler, Golovkin's promoter. But he proved no match.

The September bout will be at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds. It was his seventh win in succession since his only professional loss, to Floyd Mayweather in September 2013.

Chavez faced a $1 million-per-pound penalty. "I'm just looking forward to giving the public a great fight". I felt his punch but not to hurt me. "Nacho told me to do that but the strategy didn't work", Chavez said. "My father kept telling me to throw more punches from the ringside", he added. He's a very active fighter, he's a good fighter. Only this time there was a distinct Latino flavor.

Finally, the fight the boxing world has been waiting for has been confirmed.

. If Chavez is at the top of his game though, then Alvarez could be in trouble.

Bet on Alvarez vs. Chavez Jr.

Joseph "JoJo" Diaz Jr. (24-0, 13KOs) won an uneventful decision victory against Manuel Avila (22-1, 8KOs).

Alvarez knows his next fight will be bigger. "It can be a big boost to my career if I can win this fight". "The styles are there".
