Pemberton Music Festival cancelled

Performers scheduled included Chance the Rapper, Muse, A Tribe Called Quest, Major Lazer, the Avalanches, HAIM, Run the Jewels, Diplo, Big Sean, Ween, Logic, Tegan and Sara, MGMT, Future Islands, Migos and many others. Both the website and the festival's Twitter account have now been scrapped. Now, however, reports are brewing that the fest has been cancelled as its organizers have filed for bankruptcy.

Those same documents suggest the festival has run into significant financial trouble, having brought in just over $8.2-million in revenue, with $22-million in budgeted expenses.

There will be no automatic refunds issued to those with tickets because of the bankruptcy.

Additionally, the festival "experienced difficulty" in sourcing talent for the 2017 festival "due to a limited number of artists touring in 2017".

It read, "For the past four years Huka Entertainment has worked to create a one-of-a-kind experience in the most handsome place on earth".

It says ticket holders can file a claim as an unsecured creditor, but estimates that process would take several weeks to resolve itself. The festival owes US$2.5 million to creditors.

Huka Entertainent, the producer contracted for the event, said in a statement that it did not make the decision to cancel the festival, which it claims came from Pemberton Music Festival LP.

The popular summer show has officially been cancelled for 2017 as the organizers have filed for bankruptcy.

The event is produced and promoted by Huka in collaboration with the Village of Pemberton, Sunstone Group, Lil'wat Nation and Squamish-Lillooet Regional District. Ticketholders who paid by credit card may have more luck requesting a chargeback. Of course, this is up to the discretion of the ticket holders bank.

Documents obtained by Global News show there will be no automatic refunds for tickets as "the festival is now in bankruptcy and has no ability to provide refunds for tickets purchased".

After delaying the initial announcement of the 2017 lineup, fans were hesitant to support this year's installment of the festival.

"In due course, the Trustee will provide further details concerning contact information for the various credit cards and financial institutions on its website".

Meanwhile, tickets are still available for purchase on their website.

Some people may be able to get refunds from "third parties" if tickets were purchased with a credit card. They should contact their bank or credit card issuer regarding a refund, the document says.
