Jose Abreu: Jose Abreu homers in White Sox's win

When Carlos Ruiz grounded to Frazier, the third baseman went to second trying to force the speedy Dyson, who was running with the pitch, but Dyson beat the throw.

White Sox: CF Leury Garcia left the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a bruised right elbow after getting hit by a pitch in the top half of the inning.

Melky Cabrera doubled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to lift the White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

Quintana who struck out seven and walked one in a dominant 99-pitch performance over eight innings.

Gaviglio hadn't started in two weeks, and having thrown 75 pitches, said he could feel himself tiring in the fifth.

"That's vintage Q, right there", White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "He wants this club to win. And we hope to give him enough run support so he gets a chance to breathe a little bit".

The Sox only had a few mild threats before Cabrera's game-winning single, and they didn't get a baserunner to third in regulation. Unfortunately, it was enough for one run, because the hit was a leadoff triple by Danny Valencia in the second inning (he poked a pretty good changeup into the bigger outfield gap). He threw eight innings, giving up one hit, one earned run, one walk and seven strikeouts. As good as he was Friday night, for much of his outing it appeared he'd once again fall victim to a lack of offense as Chicago stayed scoreless through the first five innings. Though it's hard to believe Cano would have made much of a difference with how Quintana was dealing on the night. Jean Seguara had a three-run home run to led the Mariners while Tim Anderson led the White Sox with three hits, two runs and a RBI.

Robertson pitched the final two innings, retiring all six batters he faced.

Since joining the Mariners, Nelson Cruz has hit 35 of his 97 home runs against left-handed pitchers.

"For us, today is what we're anxious about", Renteria said. "We weren't able to do it when he was on the mound, but in the end we got the victory and that's the important thing". Quintana is 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA in eight career games (seven starts) against Seattle, with 44 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings.

Covey (0-3, 7.64 ERA) made his seventh start without getting a win, allowing four runs on five hits including the pair of homers. Miranda was following up an eight-strikeout game - which tied his career high at the time - in his last start Sunday at Toronto.

"Outstanding pitching", manager Scott Servais said. That also gave Segura a 17-game hitting streak, tying Mike Trout for longest in the majors. Their overall winning streak, which started with an 11-0 win at San Diego on May 9, is the longest in the majors this season. So even though he was robbed of individual glory, Quintana was more than happy to see the White Sox losing streak snapped. The Mariners are 2-7 in their last 9 Saturday games, 5-2 in their last 7 home games and 7-2 in their last 9 games on grass.

Seattle is now 0-4 in extra-inning games this season. However, Haniger felt soreness after a Thursday workout and the team will delay the rehab out of caution. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo (2-3 with a 4.53 ERA) will face Chicago right-hander Mike Pelfrey (0-4, 5.70).

"I understand this is a business and teams have got to do what's best for them", said Pelfrey, who is 0-1 with a 4.42 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners.

Mariners: LHP Ariel Miranda (3-2) makes his ninth start of the season, but has not gotten a decision in his past two outings.
