Video shows teen being gang raped by 30 men in Rio slum

Police are searching for 30 men suspected of raping a teenage girl in Rio de Janeiro and posting the 40-second-video picturing their awful actions on Twitter social media platform.

The girl reportedly went to her boyfriend's house in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday and regained consciousness later to find herself surrounded by men.

Arrest warrants have been issued, including one for the boyfriend.

According to a statement she is reported to have given to police, she woke up on Sunday, naked and wounded, and made her way home.

The attack has shocked Brazil, says the BBC's Julia Carneiro.

The shocking case gained nationwide attention in the South American country after two of the alleged rapists filmed the attack and posted it on social media.

The violent assault has shocked communities in the country and triggered an on-line campaign against the "culture of rape" in Brazil, under the hashtag #EstuproNuncaMais. When we heard the story we didn't believe what was happening. "It's a depressing situation", she told Folha de São Paulo newspaper. She is very confused. "This was very serious", she stated.

The United Nations group UN Women issued a statement calling for authorities to investigate, and have said that the victim must not be named in order to protect her privacy.
